Uzbek journalist Utkir Alimov, deputy editor-in-chief of the Uzbekistan National News Agency, has highlighted the transformative impact of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) on Central Asia. In a recent analysis, Alimov emphasized how the infrastructure-driven project is reshaping regional economies by creating jobs, expanding trade networks, and positioning Uzbekistan as a key logistics hub.
Jobs and Trade Take Center Stage
Alimov noted that BRI-linked projects have generated thousands of local employment opportunities, particularly in manufacturing and transportation sectors. "Communities along BRI corridors are witnessing unprecedented business activity," he said, pointing to improved market access for Uzbek agricultural and industrial goods.
Logistics Transformation Underway
With new rail connections and modernized highways, Uzbekistan is emerging as a critical link between China and European markets. The journalist cited a 40% increase in cross-border freight volume since 2020, attributing this growth to BRI-enabled infrastructure upgrades.
Regional Cooperation Deepens
The initiative has also accelerated economic diversification and strengthened ties between Central Asian nations. Alimov emphasized that "shared infrastructure projects are fostering new patterns of collaboration" across energy, technology, and trade sectors.
