China’s AG600 Amphibious Aircraft Cleared for Mass Production

China's domestically developed AG600 "Kunlong" amphibious aircraft has received production certification from the Civil Aviation Administration of China, marking a milestone in the country's aviation industry. The approval, granted Wednesday, paves the way for mass production of the world's largest amphibious plane designed for firefighting, maritime rescue, and transport operations.

With a 53.5-ton maximum takeoff weight and 4,500 km range, the AG600 enhances emergency response capabilities across Asia's maritime regions. Analysts note its potential to strengthen regional disaster management infrastructure while showcasing China's progress in aerospace technology.

The aircraft's development involved over 200 domestic suppliers, reflecting growing self-reliance in advanced manufacturing. Business leaders highlight opportunities in aviation supply chains and cross-border emergency response partnerships.

As climate-related disasters intensify, the AG600's deployment could reshape regional safety networks. Its dual land-water capabilities make it particularly valuable for archipelagic nations and coastal economic hubs.
