China’s Visa-Free Policies Boost Arab Engagement, Experts Say

China's recent visa-free policies for select Arab countries and regions are reshaping cross-cultural engagement, with tourism applications surging by 40% in early 2024 compared to last year. CGTN anchor Li Qiuyuan sat down with Ayoub Bechouri, a prominent anchor at China Arab TV, to explore how streamlined travel is fostering deeper economic and cultural connections.

"This isn't just about convenience—it's a bridge," Bechouri noted, highlighting how simplified entry procedures have enabled Arab entrepreneurs to attend trade fairs in Guangzhou and Xinjiang artists to perform in Dubai. Cultural institutions like the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region's Islamic art museums have reported record Arab visitor numbers this quarter.

The policies align with China's broader push for people-to-people diplomacy under the Belt and Road Initiative. Analysts observe increased collaboration in renewable energy projects, particularly between Shandong-based solar firms and Gulf states. However, Bechouri emphasized that "true understanding comes through sustained dialogue," pointing to growing Arabic-language programming on Chinese streaming platforms as evidence of reciprocal interest.
