Mayors and city representatives from 26 cities across 22 countries and regions convened in Shanghai this week for the Global Mayors Dialogue and the 2025 Shanghai International Friendship Cities Cooperation Forum. The event, which began on May 29, has become a platform for sharing innovative urban governance strategies and fostering cross-border partnerships.
Participants highlighted Shanghai's role as a model for sustainable development, with discussions focusing on education, cultural exchange, and green infrastructure. A delegate from Jakarta praised Shanghai's smart city initiatives, stating, 'Collaboration on technology-driven solutions can bridge gaps in public services across Asia.'
'This forum isn't just about agreements—it's about actionable blueprints for livable cities,' said Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng during his keynote address.
Business leaders and academics attending the event noted growing opportunities in eco-friendly urban projects, particularly in renewable energy integration and waste management systems. The forum concluded with plans to establish a joint task force for climate-resilient city planning, set to launch in early 2025.
