Beijing Warns Taiwan Independence Efforts ‘Will Come to No Good End’

China's Ministry of National Defense issued a stern warning to the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities in Taiwan on Thursday, emphasizing that any moves toward independence are "doomed to fail." Spokesperson Zhang Xiaogang reaffirmed Beijing's stance during a press conference, responding to recent remarks by Lai Ching-te, the leader of the Taiwan region, who pledged to bolster the island's defenses.

"We warn the DPP authorities that 'Taiwan independence' separatists will come to no good end," Zhang stated, underscoring the Chinese mainland's unwavering commitment to the one-China principle. He stressed that Taiwan has been an inseparable part of China since ancient times and called for cross-strait unity to safeguard national sovereignty.

The remarks follow heightened tensions after Lai Ching-te emphasized strengthening Taiwan's military preparedness, framing it as a strategy to "avoid war." Analysts suggest the exchange reflects deepening political divides, with Beijing viewing such actions as provocative steps toward formal separatism.

Cross-strait relations remain a focal point for regional stability, drawing attention from global investors and policymakers. The Chinese Communist Party has consistently advocated for peaceful reunification while reserving the right to take "resolute measures" against any threats to territorial integrity.
