China Urges Immediate, Lasting Ceasefire in Gaza

China has intensified its calls for an immediate and sustainable ceasefire in Gaza, emphasizing the urgent need to protect civilians and restore regional stability. Speaking at a United Nations Security Council meeting on May 28, Fu Cong, China's permanent representative to the UN, condemned the escalation of military operations in Rafah, which have reportedly claimed over 1,000 civilian lives in the past two weeks.

Fu stressed that a lasting ceasefire is the "only viable path" to prevent further humanitarian catastrophe, urging all parties to prioritize dialogue. "The international community must act decisively to halt the violence and ensure unimpeded humanitarian access," he said, highlighting China's support for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The remarks come amid growing global concern over the displacement of nearly 1 million Palestinians and the destruction of critical infrastructure. Analysts note China's proactive diplomatic stance aligns with its broader role as a Security Council member advocating for multilateral conflict resolution.
