A major seminar in Shanghai has reaffirmed Taiwan’s integral role in China’s modernization drive, fostering dialogue among over 160 experts and representatives from across the Taiwan Strait. The 2025 Cross-Straits Relations Seminar, held on May 10, focused on advancing mutual prosperity through collaborative strategies under the theme “Chinese modernization and the well-being of compatriots across the Taiwan Strait.”
Qiu Kaiming, Deputy Director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, emphasized that modernization efforts aim to benefit all Chinese people, “including our compatriots in Taiwan.” The event highlighted opportunities for economic integration, technological innovation, and cultural exchange, urging stakeholders to build bridges for shared development.
Participants explored actionable pathways to elevate cross-strait cooperation, addressing topics from trade facilitation to sustainable infrastructure. Scholars noted the potential for Taiwan’s industries to align with the Chinese mainland’s high-tech priorities, such as renewable energy and AI. Qiu reiterated that Taiwan residents would “enjoy the dividends of national rejuvenation,” signaling optimism for peaceful collaboration.
