India-Pakistan Tensions Escalate: Analysts Warn Full-Scale War Risk

Cross-border hostilities between India and Pakistan intensified this week following Indian airstrikes targeting areas within Pakistan-administered Kashmir. Artillery exchanges between the two nuclear-armed neighbors have reportedly killed at least 26 people, marking the deadliest flare-up since 2019.

Wang Jin, director of the Center of Strategic Studies at Northwest University in Xi'an on the Chinese mainland, described the situation as 'a tinderbox with diminishing exit ramps.' He cautioned that miscalculations in crisis communication and unresolved historical grievances could lead to full-scale conflict unless urgent diplomatic intervention occurs.

The violence has reignited debates about Kashmir's status – a territorial dispute dating to 1947 that both nations claim in full. Observers note the current escalation coincides with heightened domestic political pressures in both countries, coupled with shifting regional alliances.

Beyond immediate security concerns, business analysts warn prolonged tensions could destabilize South Asian markets and disrupt critical trade routes. Airlines have already begun rerouting flights to avoid the contested airspace.
