China’s First Quake Rescue Team Returns from Myanmar

China’s Yunnan Rescue Medical Team returned to Kunming Changshui International Airport on Thursday after completing a high-profile earthquake relief mission in Myanmar. The 37-member team, accompanied by a 17-member delegation from the Red Cross Society of China’s International Rescue Team, became the first foreign aid group to reach disaster-stricken areas following a devastating earthquake last month.

The team departed from Kunming on March 29, arriving within hours of the disaster to conduct search-and-rescue operations and provide critical medical support. Their efforts focused on collapsed infrastructure and remote villages impacted by the quake.

Li Wei, a spokesperson for the Yunnan team, stated: “Our priority was saving lives and coordinating with local authorities. This mission underscores China’s commitment to regional disaster response cooperation.”

Myanmar officials praised the rapid deployment, highlighting the team’s technical expertise in managing complex rescue scenarios. Over 500 local residents received emergency medical care during the operation.
