MANDALAY, Myanmar — A specialized emergency response team from China arrived in Myanmar's quake-stricken Mandalay region Sunday evening following a grueling 20-hour mobilization effort, as international aid gains urgency following last week's magnitude-7.7 earthquake.
CGTN correspondent Cen Ziyuan, embedded with the 62-member China Search and Rescue Team, reported damaged infrastructure and overwhelmed local hospitals near the epicenter. Team leader Li Wei told reporters: 'Our priority is conducting nighttime thermographic searches for survivors and establishing mobile medical stations.'
The deployment comes as Myanmar's National Disaster Management Committee confirms rising casualties, with over 3,200 displaced residents now sheltering in temporary camps. Geological experts warn of continuing aftershock risks in the Irrawaddy Basin region.
