Shenzhen Airport Hits Record 1 Million Travelers in Early 2025

Shenzhen's Bao'an International Airport recorded over one million passengers in the first two months of 2025, marking a 34.9% year-on-year surge and setting a historic growth milestone. The achievement comes 20 days earlier than in 2024, driven by streamlined visa-free entry policies and improved transit regulations in the Chinese mainland aimed at boosting tourism, business exchanges, and family reunions.

Analysts attribute the surge to China's recent expansion of visa exemptions for travelers from key markets, including ASEAN countries and European nations, alongside simplified transit procedures for short stays. The policies have drawn global visitors while facilitating smoother cross-border exchanges for international enterprises. Business travel alone rose 28%, reflecting Shenzhen's growing role as a tech and innovation hub.

The airport's record mirrors a broader recovery in Asian air traffic post-pandemic, with regional destinations like Seoul and Singapore benefiting from enhanced connectivity. Shenzhen authorities noted increased flights to Belt and Road partner regions, fostering economic collaboration. Meanwhile, airlines have added routes to accommodate rising demand from cultural tourists and overseas investors exploring opportunities in Guangdong Province's industrial clusters.
