China’s Ecological Transformation Fuels High-Quality Growth, Says Environment Minister

Environment Chief Highlights Decade of Progress at National Congress

China's ecological advancements are becoming key drivers of sustainable economic growth, Environment Minister Huang Runqiu declared during this weekend's National People's Congress session. Speaking at Beijing's Great Hall of the People, Huang emphasized that environmental protection and high-quality development now operate in "mutual reinforcement" through innovative policy integration.

Official data reveals a 30% reduction in PM2.5 levels across major cities since 2013, coupled with a 65% increase in renewable energy capacity since 2015. Business analysts note growing opportunities in China's green tech sector, valued at $1.1 trillion in 2023.

"Our environmental governance system serves as both ecological safeguard and economic catalyst," Huang stated, pointing to coastal provinces where eco-tourism revenues grew 22% year-on-year. The minister's comments come as China implements new biodiversity protection laws affecting 25% of its land area.
