The quake hit Dingri County in Xigaze City early on Tuesday morning, resulting in at least 126 casualties, damaging over 27,000 homes, and affecting approximately 61,500 people.
Medical teams are working around the clock at a hospital in Xigaze, ensuring that all injured patients receive immediate care. In addition to the on-site efforts, medical experts are conducting online consultations to offer additional support and expertise.
“Our priority is to save lives and provide necessary medical assistance to those affected,” said a representative from the local health department. “We are mobilizing resources from across the region to ensure that no one is left unattended.”
The earthquake has left thousands homeless, prompting authorities to initiate large-scale resettlement operations. Temporary shelters are being set up, and essential supplies such as food, water, and clothing are being distributed to those in need.
Local residents have described scenes of devastation, with many buildings reduced to rubble and infrastructure severely damaged. “It was terrifying; the ground shook so violently,” recalled one resident. “We have lost our home, but we are grateful to be alive.”
Relief organizations and volunteers from neighboring areas have joined the rescue and recovery efforts. International aid agencies have also offered assistance, highlighting the global solidarity in times of disaster.
The government has urged citizens to remain vigilant, as aftershocks continue to pose risks. Rescue teams are actively searching for survivors who may still be trapped under debris.
