Arcadia Official Highlights Challenges in Battling California Wildfires

As wildfires continue to ravage parts of California, residents in affected areas face enormous and tragic losses. The crisis has caused widespread sadness and difficulties, with communities struggling to cope with the devastation. In an exclusive interview with CGTN reporter Zhou Yixin, Arcadia City Council member Paul P. Cheng shed light on the challenges faced by local authorities in battling the blazes. Arcadia, situated in the Eaton Fire zone, has been on high alert as fires threaten homes and lives. Cheng highlighted the fire’s intensity and the unwavering dedication of Arcadia’s fire department. “The magnitude of these fires is unprecedented,” he said. “Our firefighters are working around the clock to protect our community.” One of the significant obstacles has been poor internet connectivity, which has limited the dissemination of crucial information to residents. “Communication is vital during emergencies,” Cheng noted. “With internet issues, we had to adapt quickly to ensure everyone received evacuation notices.” First responders resorted to a door-to-door approach to alert residents about the imminent dangers. “Our teams knocked on every door to ensure no one was left unaware,” Cheng explained. “It’s about saving lives, and we couldn’t rely solely on digital means.” Despite the hardships, the community’s resilience shines through. Neighbors are supporting each other, and volunteers are stepping up to assist those displaced by the fires. “In times like these, unity makes all the difference,” Cheng emphasized. Local authorities continue to coordinate responses to minimize loss and protect Arcadia’s residents. Cheng expressed hope for the future, stating, “We are committed to overcoming this crisis together. Our city will recover and emerge stronger.”
