Powerful Earthquake in Xizang Kills 95, Injures 130; Survivors Treated in Xigaze Hospital

A powerful earthquake struck Dingri County in southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region on Tuesday morning, resulting in at least 95 fatalities and 130 injuries. Rescue operations are underway as authorities work tirelessly to reach those affected in the remote mountainous region.

As of 5:40 p.m., 19 injured individuals have been transferred from Dingri County and neighboring Lhatse County to Xigaze People’s Hospital. The hospital promptly dispatched two medical teams to the quake-hit areas to provide immediate medical assistance and facilitate the transfer of the most critically injured patients.

In preparation for the influx of patients, Xigaze People’s Hospital has vacated 90 beds and dedicated its Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and emergency rooms exclusively for earthquake victims. Medical staff are working around the clock to ensure that all injured receive the necessary care.

Local authorities have activated emergency response protocols, coordinating efforts between medical facilities, rescue teams, and support services. Relief supplies, including food, water, and shelter materials, are being distributed to those displaced by the disaster.

Efforts are also being made to assess the structural integrity of buildings in the affected areas to prevent further casualties due to potential aftershocks. Experts are on site to evaluate the damage and assist in the stabilization of critical infrastructure.

The earthquake has drawn attention to the seismic activity prevalent in the region, prompting discussions on disaster preparedness and infrastructure resilience. Communities across Xizang are urged to stay alert and follow guidance from local authorities.
