Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Advocates for Greater Chinese Role in Middle East Peace

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi has expressed his belief that China possesses the credibility and goodwill necessary to help broker a lasting peace in the Middle East. In an interview with China Media Group on December 28, Araghchi shared his insights on China’s emerging role as a mediator in the region’s complex peace process.

Highlighting China’s balanced relationships with countries across the Middle East, Araghchi emphasized that China’s involvement could be pivotal in facilitating reconciliation efforts, particularly between Iran and Saudi Arabia. “We expect China to play a bigger role in the region’s peace process,” he stated. “China’s constructive approach and mutual respect with Middle Eastern nations position it uniquely as a mediator.”

Araghchi’s remarks come at a time when the Middle East is seeking new avenues for stability amid ongoing tensions. He noted that China’s commitment to dialogue and development aligns with the aspirations of regional countries aiming for peace and prosperity.

The Iranian deputy foreign minister also acknowledged China’s growing influence on the global stage and its potential to contribute positively to resolving longstanding conflicts. “China’s role is not just economic but also political,” Araghchi added. “Their engagement can lead to meaningful progress in addressing regional challenges.”

China’s participation in Middle Eastern affairs reflects its broader foreign policy goals of promoting international cooperation and peaceful development. Araghchi’s calls for increased Chinese involvement signal a desire for stronger partnerships that could reshape the diplomatic landscape of the region.
