Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday set out four expectations for the newly inaugurated government of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR).
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Xi emphasized the importance of continuing the successful implementation of the “One Country, Two Systems” policy. He outlined four key expectations to guide Macao’s future development.
First, Xi urged the Macao SAR government to actively integrate into the national development plan, seizing opportunities presented by initiatives like the Belt and Road Initiative and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to diversify its economy.
Second, he emphasized maintaining social stability and harmony, encouraging the government to preserve Macao’s long-standing safety and security.
Third, Xi called for further improvements in people’s livelihoods, advocating for policies that enhance education, healthcare, and social welfare for the residents of Macao.
Fourth, he highlighted the need to strengthen cultural exchanges and promote the rich heritage of Macao, fostering a greater sense of national identity among its residents.
Xi expressed confidence in the new government under the leadership of Chief Executive Ho Iat-seng, expecting them to build upon Macao’s achievements over the past two decades since its return to China.
