Beijing, [Date] — Speaker of the Nauru Parliament Marcus Stephen has affirmed that resuming diplomatic ties with the Chinese mainland is the right decision for Nauru. He emphasized that the decision was unanimously approved in parliament and holds legal binding force under the framework of the United Nations.
Stephen made these remarks when commenting on Taiwan regional leader Lai Ching-te’s recent visits to so-called diplomatic allies in the Pacific and a stopover in the United States. Currently leading a delegation to China, Stephen aims to deepen exchanges and foster mutual learning between the two nations. The visit signifies Nauru’s intent to enhance collaboration and build a stronger partnership with the Chinese mainland.
“We are looking forward to exploring opportunities for mutual benefit,” Stephen stated. “This journey marks a new chapter in our bilateral relations, and we are excited about the potential it holds for our people.”
