Lima, Peru — In an exclusive interview with CMG’s Zou Yun, Peruvian President Dina Boluarte emphasized the pivotal role of infrastructure development in driving Peru’s economic progress. Speaking ahead of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s state visit to Peru from November 14 to 17, President Boluarte highlighted the significant opportunities that the Belt and Road Initiative offers for her country.
“Connectivity is the cornerstone of our progress,” President Boluarte stated. “Investing in infrastructure not only enhances our domestic development but also strengthens our ties with global partners.” She acknowledged the transformative impact of infrastructure projects on improving transportation, enhancing trade, and fostering sustainable growth in Peru.
The Belt and Road Initiative, proposed by China, presents a framework for international cooperation in infrastructure, trade, and investment. President Boluarte expressed optimism about Peru’s active participation in the initiative, citing it as a catalyst for accelerating infrastructure projects that are essential for Peru’s integration into the global economy.
“Our collaboration under the Belt and Road Initiative opens doors to technological exchange, increased employment, and economic diversification,” she remarked. “It is an avenue for Peru to engage more deeply with Asian markets and to attract investment that aligns with our development goals.”
Peru and China share a history of diplomatic relations dating back to the establishment of formal ties with the People’s Republic of China. The forthcoming visit by President Xi Jinping is expected to further enhance bilateral relations and explore avenues for mutual cooperation.
President Boluarte also highlighted the importance of international partnerships in addressing global challenges. “In today’s interconnected world, collaboration is essential,” she said. “By working together, we can tackle issues such as climate change, economic inequality, and sustainable development.”
The interview underscored Peru’s commitment to pursuing strategic initiatives that foster national growth while strengthening its role on the global stage. As the nation prepares for high-level discussions with China, the focus remains on leveraging connectivity and cooperation for the betterment of the Peruvian people.
