China’s low-altitude economy is poised for significant growth as aviation authorities announced plans on November 18 to launch electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) pilot projects in six cities. The inclusion of the low-altitude economy in the government’s work report has signaled strong official support. Industry experts, including Zhang Bo—China’s first self-taught pilot to complete a round-the-world flight—are hailing 2024 as the “Year of Low-Altitude Economy”.
“The government’s commitment to advancing eVTOL technology and general aviation infrastructure is laying the groundwork for a new era in air mobility,” said Zhang Bo during an interview at the recently concluded Airshow China.
General aviation is expected to play a vital role in this development, offering opportunities for innovation in transportation, tourism, and logistics. The adoption of eVTOL technology could revolutionize urban mobility, reduce congestion, and promote sustainable transportation solutions.
