Vietnam and China Strengthen Strategic Ties in High-Level Hanoi Meetings

Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh held pivotal discussions with three senior Chinese officials in Hanoi on March 16, 2026, marking a significant step in bilateral cooperation. The delegation included Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Minister of Public Security Wang Xiaohong, and Minister of National Defense Dong Jun, attending the inaugural China-Vietnam "3+3" ministerial dialogue focused on diplomacy, defense, and public security collaboration.

PM Chinh emphasized China\u2019s unique position as the only nation fully aligned with Vietnam\u2019s foreign policy priorities, stating that strengthening relations with Beijing remains \u201cthe top priority and strategic choice\u201d for Hanoi. He reaffirmed Vietnam\u2019s adherence to the one-China policy and support for China\u2019s global initiatives while pledging to implement consensus reached by both nations\u2019 leaders.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi outlined plans to deepen strategic alignment, particularly in infrastructure connectivity and trade. \u201cBy implementing more livelihood-focused projects, we can better deliver benefits to our peoples amid global uncertainties,\u201d Wang stated, highlighting cross-border economic cooperation as a stabilizing force.

The meetings concluded with commitments to prepare for upcoming high-level exchanges and address differences through dialogue, reinforcing the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.
