China Condemns Australia Over Airspace Dispute in South China Sea

China has accused Australia of distorting facts and evading responsibility after an Australian military aircraft allegedly intruded into airspace near the Xisha Qundao (Paracel Islands) in the South China Sea. Defense Ministry spokesperson Jiang Bin stated Wednesday that Australia's claims about the incident were "completely untenable," emphasizing China's right to safeguard its sovereignty.

The Chinese People's Liberation Army Southern Theater Command reportedly intercepted and expelled the Australian aircraft after it entered what China considers its territorial airspace. Jiang described the response as "legitimate, lawful, and professionally restrained," countering Australian accusations of unsafe maneuvers.

China has lodged a formal diplomatic protest, urging Australia to cease "infringements and provocations" that could further strain bilateral relations. The incident comes amid ongoing regional tensions over maritime claims and military activities in the South China Sea, a vital waterway for global trade.

Analysts suggest the dispute highlights growing challenges in China-Australia military relations, even as both countries navigate complex economic ties. Jiang reaffirmed China's commitment to regional stability but warned that the military would "continue taking necessary measures" to protect national security.
