China Pushes for Equitable Global Security Governance at Beijing Forum

Defense Minister Calls for Collaborative Solutions Amid Global Challenges

Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun emphasized the urgent need for a more just and equitable global security governance system during meetings with counterparts from Vietnam, Uruguay, and Somalia at the 12th Beijing Xiangshan Forum. The forum, held from September 17 to 19, brought together defense leaders to discuss pressing international security challenges.

Strengthening Partnerships in a Turbulent Era

Dong highlighted the world’s transition into a 'new period of turbulence and transformation,' stressing the growing demand from the Global South for peace, development, and cooperation. He reaffirmed China’s commitment to fostering strategic trust and deepening defense collaboration to uphold global stability.

Regional and Global Responses

Vietnamese Defense Minister Phan Van Giang proposed enhanced bilateral cooperation in personnel exchanges, joint military exercises, and border defense. Uruguay’s Sandra Lazo expressed interest in leveraging China’s expertise in defense and peacekeeping, while Somalia’s Ahmed Moallim Fiqi pledged adherence to the one-China principle and expanded security cooperation.

All three visiting ministers praised the forum’s role in facilitating dialogue and building mutual trust, underscoring Asia’s growing influence in shaping global security frameworks.
