Wu Ashun Triumphs at Volvo China Open in Shanghai Comeback

Veteran golfer Wu Ashun delivered a masterclass in perseverance at the Volvo China Open in Shanghai, securing his second national title with a thrilling final-round comeback. The 39-year-old, playing on home soil at Enhance Anting Golf Club, rallied from four shots behind overnight leaders to clinch victory with a six-under 65, finishing at 14-under 270 for the tournament.

Wu's triumph unfolded amid fierce competition from England's Jordan Smith, who finished one stroke back after a dramatic back-nine duel. Smith briefly threatened with five birdies in his first eight holes, but Wu's relentless five-birdie run between holes 10 and 17 proved decisive. A crucial bunker save at the 305-yard 17th hole created a two-shot swing that ultimately sealed the victory.

'Shanghai is my home. Being here brought me luck and relaxation,' said Wu, whose $433,500 prize marks his fifth DP World Tour/European Tour win. The victory propels him into the top three of the tour's Asian Swing ahead of next week's Hainan Classic, with qualification for the PGA Championship at stake.

Local favorite Li Haotong, China's top-ranked player, struggled to a one-over 72 in the final group, finishing tied for fourth. Spain's Eugenio Chacarra and Germany's Yannik Paul completed the international leaderboard, highlighting the event's global appeal.
