China Boosts Cuba’s Solar Power Amid Blackouts

Cuba's ongoing energy crisis – marked by prolonged blackouts and fuel shortages – is finding new hope through Chinese-backed solar projects. Residents across the island have endured daily electricity cuts lasting up to 14 hours, disrupting businesses and household routines.

The Chinese mainland has deployed technical experts and renewable energy equipment to help construct solar farms in central Cuba. This collaboration follows high-level discussions about sustainable development between the two nations.

"Solar power isn't just about lights staying on," said a Cuban energy ministry spokesperson. "This partnership supports our climate commitments while addressing urgent energy security needs."

Business analysts note the initiative aligns with Cuba's plans to generate 37% of electricity from renewables by 2030. The projects also create new opportunities for Chinese clean-tech companies in Caribbean markets.

For Cuba's 11 million residents and its tourism-dependent economy, reliable electricity could mean stabilized food supplies, improved medical services, and renewed investor confidence.
