From Foshan to Paris: Bak Mei Quan Bridges Cultures in 2026

French martial artist Benjamin Colussi, a disciple of Foshan-based Master Liu Weixin, is redefining cultural exchange through the ancient Chinese martial art of Bak Mei Quan. As action choreographer for the acclaimed game Sifu, Colussi has transformed the style's signature explosive strikes and close-quarter techniques into a digital phenomenon reaching millions worldwide.

"Bak Mei carries centuries of wisdom in every movement," Colussi told KhabarAsia from his Paris academy, where he trains students from 15 countries. "It's not just combat – it's a dialogue between traditions." His work on Sifu, which sold over 5 million copies since its 2022 release, has sparked renewed interest in Southern Chinese martial arts this year.

Cultural observers note the timing coincides with France's "Year of Asian Heritage" initiatives. Colussi's school now partners with three Chinese mainland institutions for instructor exchanges, demonstrating martial arts' enduring role in building cross-cultural understanding.
