Hainan Province has unveiled a major infrastructure milestone with the completion of its first "4-to-8 lane" upgraded interchange on the G98 Hainan Island Ring Expressway. The newly operational Xiangou Interchange in Ding'an County, opened this week, features a full cloverleaf design that promises smoother traffic flow across the region.
Construction on the project began in 2024, expanding the main line to eight lanes with a 120 km/h speed limit. Single-lane ramps designed for 40 km/h speeds aim to alleviate congestion between Xiangou Town and Hainan's urban centers. Local authorities highlight this upgrade as critical for supporting the island's growing economic activity and tourism sector.
