The move follows Russian President Vladimir Putin's recent confirmation of imminent visa-free travel for Chinese citizens. As neighboring powers sharing a 4,300-km border, this agreement streamlines travel for business professionals, tourists, and cultural delegations alike.
"This policy reflects our shared commitment to people-centered diplomacy," Mao stated during the regular briefing. Analysts predict increased collaboration in sectors ranging from tech startups to cultural tourism, with bilateral trade already reaching $240 billion in the first three quarters of 2025.
The visa exemption comes as both nations prepare for their 2026 Cultural Exchange Year initiative. Travel industry experts anticipate a 40% surge in cross-border tourism, particularly along the Heilongjiang River region and Trans-Siberian Railway routes.
