In a fusion of technology and cultural preservation, Zhenbeipu Western Film Studio in northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region has deployed an AI-powered robot security dog to safeguard its historic sets and enhance visitor experiences. The four-legged 'Guardian of the Film Studio' began round-the-clock patrols in June, equipped with thermal imaging and real-time monitoring capabilities.
The autonomous device navigates the 1,100-acre complex – known as the 'Hollywood of the East' for its role in over 200 film productions – using advanced pathfinding algorithms. Studio manager Li Weiguang told KhabarAsia: 'This innovation protects our heritage while creating interactive moments for tourists. Visitors can ask it for directions or historical facts about our classic film sets.'
Analysts note the deployment reflects China's broader push to integrate smart technologies into cultural tourism. Similar systems are being tested at other heritage sites, combining security functions with visitor engagement features. The robot's data collection capabilities also help predict crowd patterns, enabling better resource allocation during peak seasons.
For investors, such developments signal growing opportunities in China's $1.2 trillion cultural tourism sector. 'AI-driven solutions are becoming key differentiators for destinations competing in post-pandemic recovery,' said tech analyst Zhang Mei. The Ningxia project follows recent smart tourism initiatives in Jiangsu and Shaanxi provinces, part of China's 14th Five-Year Plan digital transformation goals.
