China Anticipates 175 Million Railway Trips During National Day Holiday Rush

China’s railway network is gearing up for an unprecedented surge in passenger traffic, with an estimated 175 million trips expected during the upcoming National Day holiday travel rush, according to China State Railway Group Co., Ltd.

The seven-day National Day holiday, which starts on October 1 and ends on October 7 this year, is traditionally one of the busiest travel periods in the country. This year, the railway authority anticipates the peak travel day to fall on Tuesday, projecting over 21 million trips for that day alone.

The travel rush, spanning from Sunday to October 8, is expected to witness a diverse mix of travelers, including tourists exploring the country’s rich cultural heritage, families reuniting in their hometowns, and students returning home or heading back to campuses.

In response to the significant increase in passenger demand, the railway company has announced a series of measures aimed at boosting transportation capacity and enhancing service quality. These measures include adding extra trains on popular routes, optimizing schedules to accommodate peak times, and improving onboard services to ensure a safe, orderly, and enjoyable journey for all passengers.

“We are committed to providing the best possible travel experience during the holiday period,” a spokesperson for the company stated. “Efforts are being made to coordinate resources effectively and maintain high standards of safety and service.”

The National Day holiday is a significant period for the Chinese mainland, marking the founding of the People’s Republic of China. It often sees a surge in domestic travel as people take advantage of the extended break to visit family and friends or embark on leisure trips.

The anticipated increase in railway trips reflects not only the population’s eagerness to travel but also the confidence in the country’s transportation infrastructure to handle such high volumes efficiently.
