China Expects 1.8 Million Daily Cross-Border Trips During Mid-Autumn Festival

China is gearing up for an influx of cross-border travelers during this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, with an estimated average of 1.8 million daily trips expected, according to official data. This figure represents a significant 21.9% increase compared to the same period last year.

The National Immigration Administration reports that cross-border travel is anticipated to peak on Saturday and next Tuesday, as residents take advantage of the holiday period. Major international airports and land crossings to Hong Kong and Macao are projected to experience substantial increases in passenger flow.

In response to the expected surge, the administration has directed border-check agencies nationwide to enhance monitoring of passenger flows and port operations. Measures are being implemented to ensure safe, efficient, and smooth customs clearance for all travelers.

The Mid-Autumn Festival, one of the most important traditional holidays in China, falls on the 15th day of the eighth month in the Chinese lunar calendar. This year, it will be observed on September 17. The festival is a time for family reunions, moon gazing, and celebrating the harvest, prompting many to travel domestically and internationally to be with loved ones.

The anticipated increase in cross-border travel reflects a growing eagerness among people to travel and reconnect after previous travel restrictions. Businesses, investors, and cultural enthusiasts alike are expected to take advantage of this period to explore economic opportunities and cultural experiences within the region.
