Chinese diplomats are calling for enhanced tourism exchanges with the United States to deepen cultural and people-to-people ties between the two nations. At a recent symposium, Jing Quan, the charge d’affaires of the Chinese Embassy in the United States, emphasized the significant role tourism plays in China-U.S. relations and urged both countries to expand and strengthen these exchanges.
Speaking at the China-U.S. Tourism Symposium held on February 29, Jing highlighted the need to actively implement the consensus reached by the leaders of China and the United States during their summit meeting in San Francisco. He informed over 40 participants from both countries that China has recently taken effective steps to simplify visa applications for foreigners traveling to China and to facilitate foreign payments within the country. With joint efforts, the number of direct flights is set to increase to 100 per week by the end of March.
The symposium aimed to thoroughly discuss the current difficulties and challenges affecting mutual visits between Chinese and U.S. tourists, with the goal of promoting a swift recovery of bilateral tourism to pre-pandemic levels. Jing expressed optimism that, through concerted efforts, the vision set forth by the leaders of both nations can be realized soon.
Gao Zheng, director-general of the Bureau of International Exchanges and Cooperation of China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism, shared China’s perspectives on promoting tourism cooperation. He also provided updates on the preparations for the 14th China-U.S. Tourism Leadership Summit and addressed questions from representatives of U.S. tourism enterprises.
Participants engaged in in-depth discussions, brainstorming ideas, and jointly exploring prospects for future tourism cooperation. They are actively working toward an early realization of the shared vision for strengthened tourism ties between China and the United States.
