Harbin’s New Year Tourism Generates Over $800 Million

Harbin, the capital of northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province, has reported a remarkable boost in its tourism sector during the three-day New Year holiday, earning nearly billion yuan (US$838 million).

Renowned for its enchanting winter tourism, Harbin has drawn crowds of visitors with its dazzling ice and snow sculptures, a wide array of winter sports events, and the warm hospitality of its residents. This winter, the city has solidified its place as one of China’s most popular tourist destinations.

According to Tongcheng Travel, one of China’s largest online travel platforms, Harbin Ice and Snow World was the most popular destination in the country during the New Year holiday. The city’s iconic Central Street welcomed nearly 3 million visitors over the three days, and an impressive 100,000 bars of its famous Modern ice cream were sold.

Other popular attractions included the Siberian Tiger Park, Harbin Polarland, the Songhua River Ice and Snow Carnival, and the Sun Island International Snow Sculpture Art Expo. These sites offered tourists unique experiences combining natural beauty with cultural festivities.

This surge in tourism not only highlights Harbin’s appeal as a winter wonderland but also underscores the city’s successful efforts in promoting cultural tourism and enhancing visitor experiences. The significant revenue generated contributes to the local economy and showcases the potential for further growth in the region’s tourism industry.
