China’s Manufacturing Sector Hits Digital Milestone in 2026

China's industrial landscape has reached a pivotal moment in its technological evolution, with 89.6% of major manufacturing enterprises completing digital upgrades as of December 2025, according to a new report from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology. This widespread adoption marks a transition from pilot projects to full-scale implementation across core industries.

The automotive sector leads this transformation at 94.4% digitalization, closely followed by shipbuilding (94.2%) and electronics manufacturing (93.9%). These advancements are driving measurable improvements in production efficiency, supply chain resilience, and environmental sustainability.

"Digital transformation has become the backbone of modern industrial strategy," said Jiao Beibei, an engineer at the academy. "The integration of smart technologies is enabling manufacturers to reduce energy consumption while maintaining competitive output levels."

The report emphasizes the need for continued infrastructure development and standardized implementation frameworks to support smaller enterprises in their digital journeys. Industry analysts suggest these technological upgrades position Chinese manufacturers to better meet evolving global demands for smart, eco-conscious production methods.
