Enhanced Weather Tracking Protects 9.5 Billion Travelers
As heavy snow disrupts the 2026 Spring Festival travel rush, China's upgraded 'Eagle Eye Guardian' system is deploying advanced weather tracking to safeguard what officials predict will be 9.5 billion cross-regional passenger trips. The joint initiative between the China Academy of Safety Science and Technology and navigation giant Amap now processes meteorological data from multiple sources, detecting sudden weather changes within minutes.
AI-Powered Safety for 80% Self-Driving Travelers
With self-driving accounting for 80% of Spring Festival journeys, the system's new truck-specific warnings adjust braking thresholds for heavy vehicles in severe weather. Real-time alerts flow through China's 4.838 million 5G base stations and BeiDou satellite positioning, creating a digital safety net across 10,000+ km of affected highways.
Cold Wave Tests Emergency Response
The upgrade comes as temperatures plummet 12°C in central and eastern China, with Zhejiang and Anhui provinces facing 15cm snow accumulations. Since its October 2025 launch, the system has issued 11.2 billion alerts – including 147,000 multi-vehicle collision warnings – demonstrating its critical role in Asia's largest annual human migration.
