Landmark Shift in Public Transport Strategy
Singapore's Land Transport Authority (LTA) has taken a decisive step toward sustainable mobility, awarding contracts for 660 electric buses – including 300 double-deck models, the city-state's first large-scale purchase of such vehicles. The new fleet will begin replacing aging diesel buses starting late 2026 as part of a phased transition.
Infrastructure Expansion Underway
To support this initiative, the LTA launched a November 2025 tender for EV charging systems capable of sustaining one of Asia's most ambitious public transport electrification programs. This follows Singapore's commitment to achieve a 50% electric bus fleet by 2030 and complete decarbonization of public buses by 2040.
Comprehensive Support for Heavy Vehicles
Starting January 2026, the government will implement a three-year grant program for zero-emission heavy vehicles while expanding charging infrastructure. This dual approach aims to accelerate adoption across both public and commercial transport sectors, positioning Singapore as a regional leader in urban decarbonization strategies.
