Asia-Pacific Summit in Hong Kong Charts Path for Shared Digital Future

HONG KONG – The 2025 World Internet Conference Asia-Pacific Summit commenced on April 14 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, drawing nearly 1,000 delegates from over 50 countries to explore collaboration in digital transformation and cybersecurity. Under the theme “Digital Intelligence Integration Leads the Future – Collaborating to Build a Shared Future in Cyberspace,” leaders emphasized the role of innovation in bridging global divides.

At the opening ceremony, Wang Yong, Vice Chairman of China’s National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, highlighted President Xi Jinping’s vision for inclusive global internet governance. “China is committed to sharing digital advancements, fostering economic cooperation, and ensuring a secure cyberspace for all,” he stated, reinforcing China’s push for technological diplomacy.

Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee positioned the city as a nexus for innovation, stating, “In this era of complexity, Hong Kong stands ready to drive multilateral partnerships and support enterprises advancing digital connectivity.” His remarks underscored the region’s strategic role in the Asia-Pacific’s tech evolution.

Zhuang Rongwen, Director of the Cyberspace Administration of China, urged accelerated AI development paired with strengthened security frameworks, while Zheng Yanjiong of the Central Government’s Hong Kong Liaison Office emphasized leveraging the city’s institutional strengths to foster a “new highland” for digital culture and cross-border collaboration.

The summit’s agenda includes specialized forums on AI integration, cybersecurity infrastructure, and governance models. Organized by the World Internet Conference with support from the Hong Kong SAR Government, the event aims to catalyze sustainable growth and resilience in the region’s digital economies.
