China has reported a significant increase in electric vehicle (EV) charging facilities, with the total number reaching 11.43 million by the end of September this year. This marks an impressive 49.6 percent growth compared to the same period last year, according to the latest data from the National Energy Administration.
Among these charging facilities, approximately 3.33 million are public charging stations, while 8.1 million are privately owned. This expansion reflects China’s commitment to supporting the growing demand for electric vehicles and promoting sustainable transportation solutions.
With a total of 28.09 million registered new energy vehicles across the country, there is now one charging pile for every 2.46 vehicles. This ratio indicates a robust infrastructure supporting the widespread adoption of electric vehicles.
In the first nine months of 2024, China reported a net increase of 2.84 million charging piles. The total charging amount for vehicles reached 66.67 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh), up 12.4 percent year on year, highlighting the escalating usage of electric vehicles nationwide.
The National Energy Administration noted that the expanding network of charging facilities is now providing services across more highways, enhancing long-distance travel options for EV owners. Additionally, charging facilities in counties and towns have grown significantly, totaling 417,000 units as of the end of September.
