Nvidia Strengthens Partnerships in India, Unveils Hindi AI Model

Nvidia, the global chip giant, has announced a significant expansion of its partnerships in India, forging ties with major firms like Reliance Industries and rolling out a lightweight artificial intelligence (AI) model for Hindi, one of India’s most widely spoken languages.

At an AI summit held in Mumbai, Nvidia’s CEO Jensen Huang engaged in a conversation with Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries and Asia’s richest man. Huang emphasized Nvidia’s growing presence in India, stating, “Nvidia is AI in India. In just one year’s time, by the end of this year, we will have nearly 20 times more compute here in India than just a little over a year ago.”

The focus on Hindi AI models comes as businesses in India, from large corporations to startups, are developing AI solutions tailored to the country’s diverse linguistic landscape. These models aim to enhance consumer engagement and drive innovations in customer service, content translation, and AI assistants.

Nvidia introduced a new small language model called Nemotron-4-Mini-Hindi-4B, featuring 4 billion parameters, designed to help firms develop their own AI models in Hindi. “The model was pruned, distilled, and trained with a combination of real-world Hindi data, synthetic Hindi data, and an equal amount of English data,” the company stated.

Tech Mahindra, a leading Indian IT services firm, is the first to leverage Nvidia’s offering to develop a custom AI model named Indus 2.0, focused on Hindi and its numerous dialects. With only about 10% of India’s 1.4 billion population speaking English, and the constitution recognizing 22 official languages, the need for localized AI solutions is paramount.

Beyond language models, Nvidia is partnering with other Indian IT giants like Infosys, TCS, and Wipro to train around half a million developers in designing and deploying AI agents using Nvidia’s software. This initiative aims to bolster India’s AI capabilities and foster innovation across various sectors.

Companies such as Reliance and Ola Electric are set to utilize Nvidia’s “Omniverse” simulation technology, which allows them to test factory plans in a virtual environment before implementation. This technology is expected to streamline operations and enhance efficiency in manufacturing processes.

Nvidia’s deepening ties with India reflect a strategic move to tap into one of the world’s fastest-growing technology markets. By collaborating with leading Indian firms and investing in localized AI models, Nvidia is positioned to play a pivotal role in the country’s AI-driven transformation.
