Beijing has become the global hub for innovation as the 2024 World Science and Technology Development Forum, hosted by the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), commenced today. Under the theme “Science and Technology for the Future,” the forum aims to foster international collaboration and advance high-quality development through scientific and cultural exchange.

In his opening remarks, Wan Gang, chairman of the forum and president of CAST, emphasized the importance of global cooperation in addressing the world’s most pressing challenges. He proposed four key initiatives: deepening openness in basic research, promoting the healthy development of artificial intelligence, supporting young scientific talents, and enhancing collaboration in global science and technology governance.

“By embracing a spirit of shared future and win-win cooperation, we can collectively contribute to sustainable development and build a better world,” Wan urged the attendees. His call to action resonated with the diverse gathering of over 350 guests from 33 countries and regions, including Nobel Prize laureates, leaders of international scientific organizations, and esteemed academicians.

The forum will feature six thematic sessions and three roundtable discussions over the coming days, providing a platform for experts and scholars from renowned universities, research institutions, and enterprises to share insights and forge partnerships. Cultural exchange activities are also interwoven throughout the event, highlighting the importance of cross-cultural understanding in scientific advancement.

As Beijing hosts this significant gathering, the 2024 World Science and Technology Development Forum stands as a testament to the crucial role of international collaboration in shaping the future of science and technology. The forum will conclude on October 30, marking an important milestone in global efforts to promote innovation and sustainable development.
