Chinese Cybersecurity Agencies Denounce U.S. ‘Volt Typhoon’ Operation as Political Farce

In a recent development that could escalate tensions in the cyber realm, Chinese cybersecurity agencies have accused the United States government and its intelligence agencies of orchestrating a false flag operation named ‘Volt Typhoon.’ According to a report released on Monday, the U.S. allegedly planted backdoor malware into U.S.-made IT devices to infiltrate the network infrastructure of China and other countries.

The report, jointly published by China\u0027s National Computer Virus Emergency Response Center and the National Engineering Laboratory for Computer Virus Prevention Technology, details the alleged cyber espionage activities targeting China, Germany, and other nations. “We decided to publish this report for the purpose of further disclosure of the cyber espionage operations targeting China, Germany and other countries, which were launched by the U.S. government, intelligence agencies and Five Eyes countries,” the report states.

The Chinese agencies claim that the operation is a political farce staged by the U.S., intended to mislead and insult other nations while advancing its own cyber surveillance capabilities. The report calls for the international community to take notice of these alleged activities and emphasizes the need for increased cybersecurity cooperation among nations to safeguard against such threats.

The allegations come amidst growing concerns over global cybersecurity and the increasing sophistication of cyber espionage tactics employed by state actors. The term ‘Volt Typhoon’ refers to the alleged U.S. operation, which the report suggests was designed to create a pretext for the U.S. to enhance its cyber warfare posture.

No official response has been issued by the United States government or its intelligence agencies regarding these allegations at the time of this publication.
