China is set to significantly enhance its new materials industry by constructing approximately 300 pilot-scale testing platforms between 2024 and 2027. This ambitious initiative was unveiled on Friday in a guideline jointly issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the National Development and Reform Commission.
The guideline outlines China’s vision to establish a comprehensive system of pilot-scale testing platforms characterized by professional construction, market-oriented operation, and open services by 2027. These platforms are crucial for bridging the gap between laboratory research and industrial production, facilitating the commercialization of new materials and technologies.
Efforts will focus on improving infrastructure, technological support, and public services provided by these platforms. Special emphasis will be placed on supporting the development of key generic technologies and materials in sectors such as petrochemicals, steel, non-ferrous metals, inorganic nonmetals, and cutting-edge materials.
This initiative aligns with directives from a pivotal policy meeting of the Communist Party of China held in mid-July, where it was emphasized that the country would accelerate the planning and building of proof-of-concept and pilot-scale testing platforms. China also aims to refine policies for the initial application of newly developed equipment, materials, and software.
By fostering innovation and facilitating the transition from research to production, China seeks to strengthen its position in the global materials industry.
