Are you worried about losing your hair? Hair loss is a common concern for many, but understanding what’s normal can help ease your anxiety. We spoke with Professor Liu Ling, a dermatologist at Air Force Medical University, who shared simple tips for self-assessing hair loss.
“It’s normal to lose up to 100 strands a day,” says Professor Liu. “You can get a rough estimate when you shampoo.”
According to Professor Liu, if you notice only 20 to 30 strands of hair shedding during shampooing, your total daily hair loss is likely around 50 to 60 strands—a normal amount that shouldn’t cause concern.
“Understanding this can help alleviate unnecessary worry,” she adds. “Hair naturally goes through growth and shedding cycles, and losing some hair each day is part of this process.”
By keeping track of your hair shedding during routine activities like washing or brushing, you can gain a better understanding of your hair health and when it might be time to consult a professional.
Remember, if you’re experiencing significant hair loss or other symptoms, it’s always best to seek advice from a healthcare provider.
