China’s domestically developed C919 jetliner continues to expand its presence in the skies as China Southern Airlines (CSA) launched a new commercial route between Guangzhou and Hangzhou. On Saturday morning, a C919 aircraft operated by CSA and carrying 132 passengers departed from Guangzhou, a bustling metropolis in the southern Chinese mainland, and arrived in Hangzhou, the scenic capital of Zhejiang province.
This marks the introduction of the “Hangzhou-Guangzhou Express,” a brand new route for the C919. Initially, the flight will operate from Monday to Thursday and on Saturdays. Starting from October 7, the frequency will increase to daily flights, offering passengers more flexibility and convenience.
This new route is the second commercial operation for the C919 involving Hangzhou Airport, following the successful launch of the “Beijing-Hangzhou route.” The expansion signifies a significant step forward for China’s aviation industry, showcasing its capability to develop and operate its own large passenger aircraft.
The C919, developed by the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC), represents China’s efforts to break into the global aviation market and reduce reliance on foreign aircraft manufacturers. With its growing presence in domestic skies, the C919 is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing connectivity between major cities across the Chinese mainland.
Passengers aboard the inaugural flight expressed excitement over the opportunity to experience flying on a domestically developed aircraft. Industry analysts view the expansion of the C919’s operations as a positive sign for growth and innovation within the region’s aviation sector.
As more airlines adopt the C919 for their fleets, travelers can look forward to increased options and improved services on domestic routes, further boosting the development of the aviation market in Asia.
