The third edition of the Global Artificial Intelligence Summit kicked off in Riyadh on Tuesday, aiming to drive AI adoption and ensure the strategic use of related technologies worldwide.
“This year, we are raising the bar, pushing AI boundaries further and higher for the good of humanity,” said Abdullah bin Sharaf Al-Ghamdi, president of the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), during his opening remarks.
Al-Ghamdi highlighted that AI presents ethical dilemmas and significant challenges that threaten economic and social development globally. He emphasized that unity and international collaboration are essential to navigate these challenges effectively.
Under the theme “Leveraging AI for the Betterment of Humanity,” the three-day summit focuses on eight key areas. These include the role of governments in harnessing AI’s potential, advancements in generative AI, the importance of ethics and governance in safeguarding AI development, hardware innovation, and practical AI applications in industries and urban life.
Over 450 AI experts, policymakers, and entrepreneurs are participating in talks, interviews, discussions, and debates throughout the event.
In conjunction with the summit, the SDAIA released the “State of AI in Saudi Arabia” report on Monday, providing a snapshot of the nation’s AI progress. According to the report, AI is estimated to contribute up to 12 percent of Saudi Arabia’s GDP by 2030.
