Jordan Reports First Mpox Case of 2024

Jordan’s Health Ministry announced on Monday that the country has registered its first case of mpox in 2024, marking a significant development in the nation’s public health landscape.

The state-run Petra news agency reported that the infected individual is a 33-year-old non-Jordanian male resident. He developed a mpox rash and was subsequently diagnosed with the disease through a laboratory test.

The patient is currently isolated at Al Basheer Hospitals in Amman and is reported to be in stable medical condition, according to the ministry.

The Health Ministry emphasized its commitment to monitoring mpox closely and assured the public that it is prepared to handle any developments related to the disease. The ministry stated that it will not withhold any detected cases and will respond according to the pre-established national plan in collaboration with relevant authorities.

This is not the first mpox case in the kingdom. The ministry noted that Jordan recorded a previous case of the disease, formerly known as monkeypox, back in 2022.

The re-emergence of mpox highlights the importance of continued vigilance and public health preparedness. Authorities are encouraging residents to stay informed and to seek medical attention if they exhibit symptoms associated with the disease.
