The 2024 World Power Battery Conference, which opened on Sunday in the city of Yibin, southwest China’s Sichuan Province, has inked a staggering 137 projects with a combined investment of 95.25 billion yuan (about $13.4 billion), according to organizers.
Attracting nearly 400 industry experts and company executives from around the globe, the conference serves as an international platform fostering cooperation in the power battery industry. Hosted by the Sichuan provincial government, the event aims to promote high-quality development of green and low-carbon industries.
Of the total projects signed, a significant majority—133 projects worth 84.55 billion yuan—are set to be located in Yibin. These initiatives are expected to generate a combined annual output value exceeding 100 billion yuan and create over 20,000 jobs in Sichuan Province once fully operational, as reported by the Yibin municipal department for economic cooperation and new industries.
China has been at the forefront of the new energy vehicle (NEV) industry, developing a comprehensive industrial chain amid booming market demand. The commitment showcased at this conference underscores the nation’s dedication to advancing the power battery sector and embracing sustainable energy solutions.
First inaugurated in 2022, the World Power Battery Conference has rapidly become a pivotal event in the industry. Over the previous two sessions, more than 100 projects with a total contracted investment surpassing 200 billion yuan were signed, highlighting the conference’s role in driving significant investment and innovation in the power battery field.
