2024 World Robot Conference in Beijing Showcases Cutting-Edge Robotics Innovation

The 2024 World Robot Conference concluded on Sunday in Beijing, leaving attendees buzzing with excitement over the latest advancements in robotics technology. Under the theme “Co-Fostering New Quality Productive Forces for a Shared Intelligent Future,” the five-day event brought together robot scientists, international organization representatives, academicians, and entrepreneurs from around the globe.

With forums, expos, and competitions, the conference served as a global platform for innovation and collaboration. A total of 169 enterprises showcased more than 600 cutting-edge robots, with over 60 making their debut. The expo featured a record-breaking display of 27 humanoid robots, highlighting their potential applications across industry, healthcare, and service sectors. Notable exhibits included the “Tiangong,” developed by the Beijing Embodied Artificial Intelligence Robotics Innovation Center, and the Unitree G1 from Unitree Robotics.

Competitions were a major highlight, drawing over 7,000 teams and more than 13,000 competitors. Visitors were particularly captivated by the Brain-computer Interface Controlled Robot Contest, where they could experience typing numbers on a screen using only their brain and eyes—without lifting a finger.

Professor Gai Keke of the Beijing Institute of Technology emphasized the growing importance of robotics in various sectors. “These areas have a growing demand for robotics technology,” he told CGTN, referring to fields such as agriculture, healthcare, education, transportation, energy, and entertainment. “China has significant advantages in the application and market of robots. These conditions form a relatively complete industry chain, which is conducive to the development of robotic technology. Moreover, the large number of robotic technicians in China provides a strong talent pool for rapid development.”

The Chinese robotics industry has emerged as a pivotal player and catalyst for global innovation. The success of the 2024 World Robot Conference underscores China’s commitment to advancing intelligent technologies and fostering international cooperation in the robotics field.
