China has established the world’s largest and most comprehensive supply chain for new energy equipment, a senior government official announced on Thursday. Zhao Chenxin, deputy head of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), highlighted this achievement as a key factor in the nation’s rapid progress in energy efficiency.
Speaking at an event celebrating China’s second National Ecology Day on August 15, Zhao noted that the robust supply chain has enabled China to reduce its energy intensity—a measure of energy consumption per unit of economic output—by 7.3 percent between 2021 and 2023.
“Our advancements in new energy are a testament to China’s commitment to green development,” Zhao stated. “We have not only led the world in new energy capacity but have also expanded at an unprecedented pace.”
China has maintained its position as the world’s top producer of photovoltaic equipment for 16 consecutive years, supplying 70 percent of the global market. Additionally, the country accounts for 60 percent of the world’s wind power equipment, according to Zhao.
The market penetration rate of new energy vehicles in China has reached 35.2 percent, surpassing that of other major economies, official statistics reveal. This surge underscores China’s significant role in the global shift toward sustainable transportation.
On August 11, the NDRC issued guidelines for green transition, marking it as a hot topic in China. The guidelines aim to steer the country towards a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future.
In line with these efforts, China convened expert seminars on National Ecology Day to advance ecological development. The events not only highlighted the country’s major achievements in its green transition but also fostered discussions on future initiatives.
