The China-Europe Railway Express has witnessed a significant surge in freight volumes during the first seven months of this year, reflecting strengthened trade ties between China and Europe. According to data released by the China State Railway Group Co., Ltd., the rail service operated a total of 11,403 trains, transporting nearly 1.23 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of goods from January to July. This marks an increase of 12 percent in the number of trains and an 11 percent rise in freight volumes compared to the same period last year.
In July alone, the express service operated 1,776 trains, moving 185,000 TEUs of goods. This achievement marks the third consecutive month where over 1,700 trains were in operation, showcasing the robust demand for the rail link amid global supply chain challenges.
The China State Railway Group attributes this growth to continuous efforts in enhancing the quality and efficiency of the China-Europe Railway Express services. Key initiatives include strengthening transportation channels, boosting transshipment capabilities at border ports, and promoting rapid customs clearance models. These measures have been pivotal in ensuring the stability and smooth operation of international supply and industrial chains.
“Our ongoing improvements have injected new impetus into the development of China\u2019s foreign trade and have supported high-level opening up,” stated the railway operator. The enhanced rail services not only facilitate trade between China and Europe but also offer a reliable alternative to maritime and air freight, contributing to global trade resilience.
